Timber Effect Flush Windows and DoorsNorth Wales

Roodee Cottage is a beautiful and very traditional cottage in the heart of green belt land owned by the National Trust in North Wales. The property was originally fitted with timber casement windows. However, as these were letting a lot of cold air in, letting a lot of hot air escape and generally rotting, they had clearly seen better days. An appropriate replacement was required, but as conventional UPVC casement windows would not be in keeping with the style of the property, they contacted John Knight Glass to find out about alternatives.

As a result of the many consultations the couple had with John Knight Glass, it was decided that Evolution flush windows would be ideal for the cottage as they have all the advantages of authentic UPVC windows, like low maintenance, A-rated double-glazing and improved energy efficiency.

Alongside the modern features though, they also have all the style of timber casement windows from that period such as the flushed window design, the painted green and white wood effect finish, the Georgian style bars and the mechanical butt joints. Furthermore, the windows were giving the authentic finishing touch of internal window furniture including the peg stays and the monkey tail handles.

As the original front door to the cottage was badly in need of updating, the couple decided on a timber effect door from the Evolution range that had the same wood foil finish to match up seamlessly with the windows on both the interior and exterior of the property. This was finished with the traditional cast-iron effect door hardware and green and white colouring so that it everything in the home came together and nothing stood out or became an eyesore.

The installation of Evolution windows and the new front door has improved the overall comfort of the property, while ensuring it keeps its original and authentic charm. As neither the new door or windows need much in the way of maintenance, it also has meant that the couple can enjoy their property without having to put too much work into the upkeep of these new features.
