Give your home a new lease of life with coloured window frames

yellow coloured windows external

While once upon a time uPVC windows were only available in white, there are now so many colourful options to choose from. In the last few years, we’ve noticed a huge increase in the purchase of coloured frames. The appearance of your home can be completely transformed by updating white window frames to a different colour. Adding coloured frames can make your home stand out from the crowd and give the impression that you have specifically chosen them to suit your property, rather than just sticking with what is currently in situ. We recommend you choose a colour that you will be happy to live with for many years to come.

If you live in a listed building or in a designated conservation area, you should check with your local authority’s planning team to see if there are any restrictions on changing the colour of your window frames.

Technological advances in paint

Our new paint supplier has given us more environmentally friendly paint. This paint also contains added UV protection to protect it from yellowing, in addition to enhanced protection against salt and other atmospheric factors. In fact, our paint offers twice the amount of weather protection than it did previously. And not only that, but it is also has improved resistance against chips from stone and grit. As with all of our timber alternative window frames, your new coloured windows will be virtually maintenance free.

Colour matching

We offer 10 standard, authentic timber-effect finishes and one smooth gloss finish to compliment traditional and contemporary properties. Alongside these colours, we offer a bespoke colour matching service. You may wish to match the colour of your new window frames to your original existing windows, or you may wish to match your new windows with a new or existing front door. There are over 200 RAL colours to choose from. In addition to shades of grey, pale green and cream frames are often used to give a classic look to country cottages.

Fifty shades of grey

Grey frames are leading the way in the popularity stakes and the trend doesn’t seem to be showing any signs of waning. As we all know, there are many shades of grey, but our customers’ most popular choices are olive grey (sometimes also called French grey), agate grey and anthracite grey. Our olive and agate greys are a lighter, more neutral, shade, which can add an elegant feel to character properties, whilst anthracite grey is a darker, punchier hue, giving a more contemporary finish.

Black or white?

White frames are still the most popular choice of all window frames. They are the most traditional option, yet give a clean, contemporary finish. However black window frames have seen a rise in popularity over recent years. While many think this is a contemporary choice, black window frames can enhance traditional properties, particularly those with leaded windows, such as Tudor-style homes. Darker window frames can also give the impression that your windows are larger in low light.

Timber colours

Timber colours are still a popular choice of window frame. If you are opting to install timber alternative windows, why not go the whole way and choose an oak, natural wood or rosewood finish? Timber colours can enhance traditional properties, but can also look fabulous on contemporary homes.

Inside out

Our customers often ask if they can have a different colour inside and out. The advantage of our timber alternative windows is that you can choose to have different colour on the inside. While many love the idea of having coloured frames to enhance a property’s exterior, white is still the most popular choice internally so as not to clash with interiors. Some customers choose to have coloured windows at the front of their home and white windows at the back; we then have the option of colouring the inside of all the windows the same to give a cohesive appearance throughout the interior.
